01 Accepting these terms

By using GBT Zero you agree to these terms. If you are using the service for an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept them on its behalf.

If you do not agree, do not use the service. That is the whole mechanism; there is nothing to cancel because there is no account.

02 What the service is

GBT Zero analyses text you submit and returns an estimated probability that it was generated by a large language model, along with a sentence-level breakdown of which passages drove that estimate.

The web detector is provided free of charge, with no account and no scan quota, subject to a limit of 50,000 characters per scan and to reasonable-use protections against automated abuse.

We may change, suspend or withdraw features at any time. We aim to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted access, and we do not guarantee any particular response time.

03 How results may and may not be used

This section matters more than the rest of this document.

A GBT Zero result is a statistical estimate. It is evidence to investigate. It is not proof of authorship and must not be presented as proof.

You agree that you will not rely on a GBT Zero score as the sole basis for:

• an academic misconduct finding or penalty;
• terminating, disciplining or refusing to pay a writer or contractor;
• a hiring, admissions or contractual rejection;
• any public accusation that a named person used AI to produce work.

Detection is known to over-flag short passages, formulaic technical writing, and text written by non-native English speakers. Decisions of the kind listed above need corroborating evidence such as drafts, version history, or a conversation with the writer.

You are responsible for how you act on a result. We accept no liability for consequences arising from treating a probability as a verdict.

04 Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• submit text you have no right to submit, including confidential material belonging to someone else;
• use automated tools to scrape the service or circumvent rate limits, rather than using the API;
• attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to the service;
• resell or redistribute access to the detector as though it were your own product;
• use the service to harass, defame or unlawfully surveil any person.

We may block access that threatens the availability or integrity of the service, without notice where the situation requires it.

05 Your content

You keep all rights to the text you submit. We claim no ownership of it and acquire no licence to it beyond what is technically necessary to run the analysis and return your result.

Because scanned text is discarded once the result is returned, no ongoing licence is needed and none is granted. See the privacy policy for details.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit the text, particularly where it is confidential, personal data, or subject to a client agreement.

06 Our intellectual property

The GBT Zero name, logo, interface, written content and detection methodology are ours or our licensors'. These terms do not transfer any of that to you.

You may quote and link to our published material, including the explanatory content on this site, with attribution. You may not copy the interface or present the service as your own.

07 No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that results will be accurate in any individual case, that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that defects will be corrected.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

08 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GBT Zero will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, reputation or goodwill, arising out of or connected with your use of the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

09 Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page will change when we do, and continued use after that date means you accept the revised terms. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which GBT Zero is established, without regard to conflict of law rules. Where you have mandatory consumer rights under the law of your country of residence, this clause does not remove them.
